 VANCOUVER—The number of environmental printing and writing grade papers available in North America has more than doubled, from 97 to 228 in the past 18 months, according to a press release from Canopy, formerly Market Initiative.

GLEN FALLS, NY—Finch Paper recently announced two new web elements, the Finch in the Forest educational blog and an interactive question forum for their website, Finchpaper.com. The blog, “intriguing insight from a senior Finch forester” will attempt to reduce the complexity surrounding environmental paper choices. Vice president senior forester Roger Dziengeleski will write about industry trends, statistics and practices based on his years of experience in the industry.

SAINT-JEROME, QUE.—Cascades was recently named the winner of the Greener Containers, Packaging and Printed Matter recognition program from Eco Enterprises Quebec for its 100 per cent recycled and recyclable ream wrapper.

RICHMOND, B.C.—In recognition of its exceptional transparency relating to climate change, Richmond, B.C.-based Catalyst Paper has been named a Climate Disclosure Leader. The company has appeared on this ranking since 2007, based on the quantity and depth of information provided to the global Carbon Disclosure Project (CPD). Catalyst is one of two Canadian manufacturing companies and the only forest-products company to earn this recognition for 2009.

GLEN FALLS, NY — Paper producer Finch Paper recently released its Green Guide, a comprehensive publication detailing the company’s commitment to sustainability. It includes Finch’s paper production chart which details certifications and green attributes of its products. The guide also discusses the company’s philosophy of working with “the natural system, its on-site renewable energy sources and use of innovative methods to capture emissions,” according to a press release.
