Scholarship award honours the late James Lee

VANCOUVER—On Aug. 15, the James Lee Foundation will begin accepting submissions online for its inaugural scholarship award. Established last year to honour the late James Lee, the JLF Scholarship is open to emerging creative talent from across the country looking to enter the advertising business.

New award to recognize up-and-coming "creative rebel"The scholarship, worth $5,000, will be awarded to the portfolio that demonstrates the most creativity, original thinking and craftsmanship. The award is open to individuals from all sectors of advertising, including writers, art directors, filmmakers, recording artists, illustrators, photographers and digital artists. Submissions will be judged by a panel of representatives from the foundation’s five founding agencies: Grip Limited, Lowe Roche, Rethink, TBWA Vancouver and DDB Canada, where Lee worked as an associate creative director at its Vancouver office.

Lee died of heart failure on May 6, 2007, 11 days before his 38th birthday. That same year, Strategy magazine named Lee the most awarded copywriter in Canada.
