Canadian printers receive green awards

TORONTO—Several companies familiar to the design industry came out on top at the Environmental Printing Awards held in Toronto last week.

The partners in last year’s “Wheat Sheet” project that saw an issue of Canadian Geographic magazine printed on paper made partially from waste wheat-straw fibre received two awards.

The magazine’s printer, Dollco Printing in Ottawa, received the gold award for Most Progressive Environmental Printing project, web offset category. Another partner in the project, Markets Initiative executive director Nicole Rycroft, won the Environmental Innovator award for her role as the brainchild behind the issue.

Among the other winners were printers C.J. Graphics, Colour Innovations, Hemlock Printers, The Lowe-Martin Group, Metropolitan Fine Printers and St. Joseph Communications. Paper maker Cascades Fine Paper and merchant Unisource also took away honours. Hewlett-Packard won several awards for its environmental programs.

The awards are produced by trade publication PrintAction where you can view the full list of winners.
