BSI releases green dictionary

LONDON, UK—What do the terms “remanufacture,” “carbon footprint,” “end-of-life,” “reuse” and “reconditioning” actually mean? The British Standards Institution has included definitions for these and other green vocabulary in Design for manufacture, assembly, disassembly and end-of-life processing (MADE): Terms and definitions. It is the second paper in a four-part series covering eco-design principles.

“Standard terminology can help transfer a design concept to manufacture in a way that is most efficient, cost effective and environmentally aware,” according to the BSI. The glossary “aims to remove any ambiguity surrounding design terminology, thereby reducing possible confusion both to industry and to end users.”

The paper available from the BSI is priced at £84. Contact: www.bsigroup.com
