Canadian Art redesigns
TORONTO—This fall, Canadian Art will celebrate its 25th anniversary by unveiling a complete redesign, including a wider format and new logo.

The logo was created by the magazine’s art director, Barbara Solowan, and uses Helvetica Neue typeface.

The magazine, now 8 7/8” wide, will include several new sections: Newsfront, two pages of Canadian art news; Faces & Places, which focuses on one significant artist, collector or curator; and Survey, the new preview section that lists events from all across the country.

“We think of the wider format as play space for the art – it gives us many more options,” says Richard Rhodes, editor at Canadian Art since 1996.

While its last anniversary issue (20th) focused on history, Rhodes says the new one, available Sept. 15, will look towards the future. The fall issue focuses on 10 contemporary Canadian artists who are setting the pace for the new art scene. Contact: www.canadianart.ca

Congratulations to Barb Solowan. It’s refreshing to see a mature approach to design that resists the temptation to be too trendy. This classic use of Helvetica Neue should serve Canadian Art well. Nicely done.

Great now it'll look like just another government organisation, sorry but that is a poverty certificate of a redesign if ever there was one.
