New head of digital design program at VFS
VANCOUVER—The digital design program at the Vancouver Film School recently announced the appointment of Brett Forsyth as the new head of its program. Forsyth has been with the school since 2004 when he started as a part-time instructor in the interactive media program. He takes over from Sebastien de Castell, who has been appointed to the newly created role of director of strategic program development.

Describing the path that led to his recent promotion as a “long journey”, Forsyth, who originally went to school for engineering, says he has always been interested in design. “I think I had been a little bit brainwashed to think that the sciences were the thing to do to get a career,” he says. “I think I was confused when I graduated high school and lacked the maturity to see that design was the thing I was interested in.”

Forsyth’s plans for the program aren’t drastic, although he is interested in expanding the network of connections available to students at the school. “For a number of reasons we are not as connected in the U.S. and overseas markets,” he says. “I have been building those relationships over the years by speaking at events like Adobe Partners by Design and FITC. I’m really focused on building those relationships so students can talk to people in all the right places.” Contact: Vfs.com
