Design leader Don Watt dies
TORONTO—Widely known for his work with clients including Walmart, Loblaws, Nestle and Kraft, design pioneer Don Watt died last week at age 73. Born February 9, 1936 in Regina, Sask., Watt’s
career included such highlights as working as an illustrator on the Avro Arrow, in animation for Warner Bros. in California and forming his own business, Don Watt + Associates. It was there that he worked closely with Loblaws in developing the packaging of the No Name and President’s Choice brands. Watt later founded Toronto-based DW + Partners with his partner Geoff Belchetz, a consultancy specializing in retail branding and design.

He was an early supporter of Communication Designers of Toronto (CDOT) and I am glad that we were able to honour him and his accomplishments last April.
