Three new fonts from P22
BUFFALO, N.Y.—P22 type foundry has released three new font families designed by Norwegian Torleiv Sverdrup for their International House of Fonts division. Sverdrup has been a graphic designer for 20 years and says he designs type faces from scratch, working with just a couple of letters which then serve as a “matrix” for the remaining letters to be designed. Kirkwall

This font was inspired by the people and culture of Orkney, an island off the coast of northern Scotland. The font features capital letters with slightly curved stems that end with small serifs and wedge crossbars. Lowercase letters have a fluid look with end hooks and long leading serifs. Kirkwall is a good fit for display work, shorter text and headlines.

Ornes

Ornes was inspired by the symbols of the Urnes Stave Church in Norway which houses nearly 900 year-old woodcarvings that reflect the pre-Christian era. The Ornes family offers ornamented caps, small caps, ornamented small caps as well as the runic alphabet – used by Vikings.

Speyside

This curvy sans serif font was named after a small town in Tobago and inspired by local crafts on the island. The family comes with an additional set of decorated uppercase letters, initials and small caps. Speyside is recommended for text, titling and display.
