Kaboom designs poster for National Art Gallery exhibit
GATINEAU, QC—The National Gallery of Canada is showing Tate Modern’s Andy Warhol-inspired exhibit Pop Life: Art in a Material World this June.  The show focuses on the interaction between contemporary art, marketing and the mass media.

As part of the Pop Life exhibition, featured artist Damien Hirst brings his concept art piece on surface appearances and individuality to life with a call for identical twins to become living works of art.

Kaboom was challenged to create a poster for Daniel Hirst's art piece

Gatineau’s Kaboom Communications Design was commissioned to design a poster calling for multiple sets of identical twins.

“We were looking for things in sets of two’s and someone brought up [the card game] Go Fish. Where you are seeking pairs, or twins, it was the perfect visual imagery,” says Mathieu Robin, Kaboom art director.
The poster concept was based on the pairs card game Go Fish

Trade gothic was the font choice for the poster as it is a straight forward typeface that will not compete with the bright colours and imagery, says Robin. The cyan and magenta were selected to complement the colours used in the Pop Life branding.

After three years serving as the marketing and print media company for the National Gallery of Canada, Kaboom has earned another three-year contract, says Christine Lajoie, Kaboom’s general director.

"... you have to check the blog to see an image of this in context on the street ..."

and that's going to make it better? Sorry this looks like extreme cake-decoration and does not convey pop art ... just bad design.

I agree, I dont get the purpose or message and would just walk by if I saw this on the street

- no one except the National Gallery of Canada and Kaboom will ever get this ... too busy and not clear.

I am upset that my tax money paid for this poster ... what is it about? If I didn't read this article, I would have no idea what this poster is communicating or promoting ... Twins wanted for art???? it actually says is the fine print to see the website for details. Now who is going to do that? I don't get it.
