K9 Design adds 'energy' to magazine conference logo
TORONTO—Canada's annual magazine industry conference has a new look to convey the "energy and focus" of the four-day event in June.

K9 Design in Toronto came up with a new look for the sixth annual MagNet, taking place June 5-8, 2012.

According to a release, the logo reflects the "future-focused evolution of Canada's magazines. With its spinning circular motif, the image suggests the change that is a part of growth, while the strong vibrant colour accents embody the excitement MagNet generates annually among delegates and in the industry in general."

Norm Lourenco, principal at K9, added, "We strived to capture the chaotic pace and constant moving that is publishing today while also defining MagNet as the eye of the storm, the calm where our industry can gather ... publishing is no longer just about ink and paper so we wanted to stray from the more obvious visuals, and instead focus on the abstract representations that capture the essence rather than just the product we produce."

MagNet's general manager, Barbara Zatyko, is pleased with the design. "The team at K9 Design have created an arresting visual identity that conveys the energy and focus of North America's biggest magazine event," noted Zatyko. "The design says, 'focus forward,' and that's exactly what will define MagNet 2012."

K9 has designed the MagNet logo for the past three years, building on an original concept by Hambly and Woolley.
