CreativeMornings arrives in nation's capital
OTTAWA—CreativeMornings, a popular worldwide monthly breakfast lecture series, has landed in the nation's capital.

Ottawa’s chapter of the internationally renowned CreativeMornings monthly breakfast lecture series kicked off in late June with Manuel Baez delivering a talk to a packed house at Hub Ottawa.

Baez works as an architect, artist, and researcher. "With a fairly broad topic capable of delving into many extremely relevant examples given our current rapid technological advancements, the inaugural speaker, Manuel Baez, did not disappoint," noted CreativeMornings/Ottawa.

Ottawa joins Toronto and Vancouver as the third Canadian city in the CreativeMornings family, which is now 29 cities strong internationally. More than 100 creatives packed the Hub in downtown Ottawa for the first session, according to organizers.

Michael Grigoriev (an Ottawa-area designer) and Sharif Virani ("jack of many trades") are the co-organizers of the Ottawa chapter.

"Ottawa’s unique demographics present a new challenge and opportunity for CreativeMornings," noted Grigoriev. "As the national capital, it’s home to a vibrant, stable, and healthy economy, but not always one that’s assumed to be very creative, or have many creatives in its midst."

"Ottawa is still finding its identity while understanding and defining the role that creativity plays in this city’s industry and lifestyle... CreativeMornings is a timely addition to the burgeoning scene and is primed to make a significant contribution to the growing wildfire of creativity beginning to spring up in the capital."

Sponsors of the inaugural Ottawa event included Hub Ottawa, ConceptShare, and Camino.

This is what we need to be doing and more often! These events are brilliant and motivational for the soul. Some of us are sole designers or working in small shops that don't have access to creative thinkers and speakers and these are just the ticket. I can only wish that they would happen more often!!

Congratulations to Sharif and Michael on obtaining the rights to organize the CreativeMornings series for Ottawa! The inaugural event was superb and Manuel Baez was an ideal speaker for the Arts/Technology theme. The way forward now is to continue the Ottawa series with high caliber presentations like Manuel's.
