GDC Foundation's Get Behind Design Campaign 2012 launched
OTTAWA—Through the GDC Foundation, the GDC wants to help designers and build the profession.

Grants for Canadian design research and special projects are important to developing the design profession, and scholarships for students as well as professionals are needed. Assisting designers experiencing crisis is another way the GDC can support the profession.

This is what the GDC Foundation is all about. The Foundation has raised almost $30,000 towards these ends. The goal for 2012 is to raise the Foundation's seed capital to $35,000 plus.

Those who donate between October 10 and December 31, 2012 will be entered into a draw for some great prizes including a TypeCon entry, a CUSP conference entry, two free Design Edge 2013 Regional Design Awards entries and more.

"We gained our first student scholarship this year, through the generosity of GDC Fellows Ray and Casey Hrynkow," said Peggy Cady, GDC Foundation Committee Chair. "Ray's passing touched many hearts, and donations have poured in that will allow us to build a scholarship fund in his name: the Ray Hrynkow Scholarship for the Thinking Designer. He will be remembered and appreciated for years to come." The first scholarship was awarded this year, to Cheryl Loh, a third year student at Emily Carr University of Art + Design, in Vancouver, BC.

“The GDC Foundation is a long term, legacy project that will eventually have a great impact on the profession. Donating to the Foundation is a great way to give back to your community,” said Cady.
