Social Good Design Awards juried exhibit opens
An exhibit recognizing the 35 top entries in RGD Ontario’s first annual Social Good Design Awards opened last Saturday evening, November 10, at the Gladstone Hotel in Toronto. The awards, which recognizes work done to create awareness of social issues, attracted over 200 submissions from 11 different countries. Work was entered in three divisions Non-Profit, For Profit and Designer Initiated, and included digital, video and print work.

Toronto’s Una Lee has four entries in the top 35; Toronto’s Blok Design has three, while Clear Space, based in Unionville, ON, has two. Other Canadian studios, agencies and designers whose work is in the exhibit include, from Kitchener, ON, Antonia Goga, and Hagon Design; from Montreal, Jayme Spinks, and Nelu Wolfensohn/Ronald Filion-Malette Jr.; from Oakville, ON, Branding for Good; from North Bay, ON, Samantha Dirksen; from Peterborough, ON, Naomi Francis; from Port Hope, ON, Limelight Advertising & Design; from Toronto, Amoeba Corp., Atanas Bozdarov, Audrey Chia, Emilio Genovese (Royal Ontario Museum), Gil Martinez, José Garcia/Tomas Hinojosa, Monica Krupa, Oxygen, Pivot Design Group, Qiannan Zhao, Smart Bubble Society Inc., Taxi and Yana Stephchenko; and from Vancouver, Subplot Design.

“The winning submissions manage to make difficult ideas into powerful communication that not only raises awareness, but also raises the level of design,” says jury member Paddy Harrington RGD, executive creative director at Bruce Mau Design.

The juried exhibit at the Gladstone Hotel, will run until November 18.
