TORONTO—Celebrated graphic designer Stefan Sagmeister's exhibition The Happy Show has opened at Toronto's Design Exchange and will run until March 3, 2013. The show centres around Sagmeister's 10-year exploration of happiness and includes typographic investigations of a series of maxims, as well as a clip from Sagmeister's documentary, The Happy Film, which is still in production. Sagmeister spoke about his Happy explorations at the DesignThinkers 2012 conference in Toronto last November.


As The Happy Show rolled into town, Sagmeister made the rounds of Canadian media. He spoke with jian Ghomeshi on CBC Radio's Q on Wednesday, Jan. 8 and is featured in today's Globe and Mail. Design Edge's favourite Sagmeister quote from the Globe and Mail article, written by Robert Everett-Green, is: "You could say that bad typogaphy [in the form of the Florida ballots in the 2000 U.S. presidential election] brought us the Afghanistan war, the Iraq war, the housing crisis and a good number of other things."
